5 Card Stud Poker Information and Resources
Despite it's previous popularity and history as one of the older poker games in existence (people started playing
during the Civil War), 5 card stud has lost much of it's following recently - with seven card stud played more
frequently at online casinos, home games, and regular poker rooms alike.
Much of the decline in popularity is attributed to the nature of the game itself. With only a single hole card and
a 5 card hand being dealt to each player betting can be anti-climatic at times, especially when compared to 7 card stud
(which sees an additional 2 hole cards on a 7 card deal) or other popular poker variations like Texas Hold'em.
Still, for many players (myself included) the game still has it's allure. Stealing pots with a single down card or
knowing you've got a lock on a hand does make for very exciting hands sometimes at least, and for players who have
been around for a while, 5 card still will still have it's following for another couple of generations.
